On April 21, 2007 Publix officially announced that it will open a new store in the Vilano Town Center.  It is scheduled to open in the Spring of 2009!  This is news that we knew was going to happen, however it is nice to see official notification.  Clearly this store, along with many other retail establishments will change the face and the future of Vilano.

Official announcements were made in the FL Times Union, St. Augustine Record, and St. Johns Sun.  The Jacksonville.com St. Johns Sun section stated the following:

"Publix lease signed at Regency Centers Vilano Town Center"

"Regency Centers, a national owner, operator and developer of grocery-anchored and community shopping centers, has announced Publix Supermarket will anchor the retail portion of Vilano Town Center located on Florida A1A North in Vilano Beach (photo above right). The 29,000 square foot Publix is scheduled to open for business in the spring of 2009."

"Regency Centers and Vilano Beach Development LLC will develop town center as the first mixed-use retail and residential property along the coastline of northeast Florida. The 4.4 acre development will include Class A retail space on the ground level with luxury residential condominiums and private parking above the retailers."
